Crocheting & Sewing: A Lined Cardigan Jacket

AKA. Project 2021.5
This project was born on the basis that I've never really knitted or crocheted a large item. I've done scarves, dog sweaters and that's about it. Deciding on doing this project was one aimed at personal growth and skillset building.

Like all things making a plan before you begin is usually a good thing. It helps you map your way through your project.
  • I started with the cuffs, the arms, and then the edge of the bottom of the jacket design.
At some point I ran out of yarn and had to order a whole box load, because this being my first large crocheted sweater jacket, I was unaware how much yarn I really needed. I ordered some more and waited for them to come before continuing on.

  • I worked from the bottom edge and crocheted up. Making the body of the jacket. Before attaching the arms.

  • After successfully attaching the arms to the body of the jacket, I worked my way up decreasing my stitches around the shoulders making my way up to the neck before increasing them again to create the hood of the jacket.
  • I then crocheted inside edge of the jacket -seperately- spanning from the bottom of the right side up to the hood and back down to the bottom left. I left the length a little shorter than the actual length measured so that it would naturally create a bit a puckering affect once it was fully attached to the rest of the jacket.
  • I had purchased excess flannel for a previous project which I then used as internal lining for this jacket. Making it extra layer of protection against the Canadian winters. I flipped the project inside out. Traced out the different panels needed, (Right arm, Left arm, Main body, hood.) Sewed them all together. I flipped the project right side out again, before pinning the lining in and sewing it together by hand.

  • I bought zippers and buttons to add to the jacket I didn't want the zipper to be prominent but a layer of protection and created button loops and inside buttons to be hidden from the outside design so it is cleaner.
  • The Instagram video is the finished product.
