The Bat Shirt

December 25, 2016, and this year I decided to get my brother a retro Batman shirt. One that looked like the one that he once had as a kid. So I searched everywhere. I looked online, amazon, online retro shirt stores, google shopping. I found nothing resembling even close to the shirt he once had. I could not even pinpoint the era the design is from since it was before I was born. Then I thought, since I can't find it, let's make it.
Materials:
- a t-shirt that resembled the shirt. It was a baseball t-shirt.
- Fabric paint
Equipment:
- Paint Brushes and a cup of water to clean the brushes.
- A piece of cardboard. (should be just a little smaller than the size of the torso of the shirt.
Steps:
- Get a photo for reference.
- Scan the photo, photoshop and manipulate the design to see what it would look like fully flattened.
- Take the piece of cardboard and slip it into the body of the shirt, between the front and back.
- This ensures the paint won't bleed through the front and onto the back of the shirt.
- Use black fabric paint and start painting the outline of the design (where there is black).
- Paint in the colors.
- Wait for everything to dry.
- Wrap it up and gift it.
I actually enjoyed re-creating this retro design t-shirt for my brother. It's a fun comic book style design where Batman is in an interesting stance or body movement and angle.
