Making: Toasty

In June of 2019, I thought it would be neat to create a large prop for Toasty & Co. Photography's prop collection. One that is of the mascot.

Materials: Felt Panels, Large zipper, Upholstery cushion.

Equipment: Hot-glue gun, sewing machine, Scissors, Pins, Needle & Thread, Large sheet of paper, Pencil.

STEPS:

  1. Have a design ready.
  2. Map out the pieces you'll need to make the design 3D from a 2D design.
  3. Use the large sheet of paper to draw out the design enlarged / the size you're hoping to make.
  4. Cut out the design to use as templates for your felt pieces and foam.
  5. Trace the design on felt pieces with an edge of 1/4-1/2 for your sewing edge.
  6. Trace the shape of the foam.
  7. Cut out your felt pieces and foam.
  8. Pin together your felt pieces (template shape outwards) and Zipper to prep for sewing together.
  9. Sew together your felt pieces and Zipper. (Leaving gaps for the stuffing for your legs and arms)
  10. Reverse sewn together pieces, flipping it right side out.
  11. Place foam inside and zip it up closed.
  12. Stuff and sew up the legs and arm pieces.
  13. Hot-Glue the facial pieces.

These are the basic steps I took in creating this mascot. I also made a few custom props for him as well.
